License Process:

You need a valid visa to get a driving license in Dubai, but not a visit visa. The age for a driving license varies according to the type of vehicle. 

  • 17 years for motorcycles
  • 18 years for cars and light vehicles
  • 20 years for heavy bicycles and tractors
  • 21 years for buses.

The first step is to open the file. To open the file, you should go to the Driving Institution approved by RTA. Some notable driving institutions are:

  • Dubai Driving Center (DDC)
  • Emirates Driving Institute (EDI)
  • Galadari Motor Driving Centre (GMDC)

All that is needed to open the file is as follows

  • The original Emirates ID card
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of residence visa
  • Eye test report

Theoretical Classes and Examinations:

In theoretical classes, theoretical education is given about traffic rules, various types of traffic signs, signs, safety, and various road signals. The test can be taken directly or through mobile-related apps. If you do not pass this step, you have to retake the test.

Practical Training and Examination:

After passing the theoretical test the step is practical training and examination. Practical driving is taught at this stage. Passing that final exam will get the license within a certain period of time.

This licensing process can normally take 3-4 months to complete.
